Why are they keeping an ancient version of WoW available when there aren't even compatible (blizzard) servers for it to connect to, and the only reason to get it is piracy?

That's possible. I don't know about those. I mean, I know those, but don't know if they are still offered

well, at least the patched one. Actually also the unpatched one. But unpatched it disconnects once you want to enter the world with your toon (although I do not know if this is related to auth modules, or some other check which gets patched out)

I don't know if I was unlucky, but I had to run it VERY often. It downloaded a bit, crashed, downloaded a bit, crashed. So I ended up just automatically restart it every time it crashes. and when I checked two days later, it was all downloaded (maybe already after an hour or two, maybe after one and a half days - I don't know)

Can't say much about packet structures as I'm figuring out those myself yet (there is little to no documentation about the added opcodes online - actually I try to understand most of them by reading TC/ TCPP source )
