You can do it that way yes, but it's not a necessity, depending on how hacky you want the implementation to be

A binary edit isn't the way to go about doing this, you'd either do it through a dll injection or using some other transport like addon messages

so far I have been working with repack from AC-web from 10 years ago, only here I compiled my 1st server - so I only modded with the client then, if you can call it that
