But well, to explan this:
WoW still loads other files than their own. eg that patch-2.mpq. If there is none yet, just use that filename. But it still checks if those MPQs have the right signatures. For world\ character\ etc folders. Not for all. As said, Items\ isnt checked. So feel free to still use such things.

your problem seems to be that somehow the files out of your custom patches got in and it does not like them. thats what i think. no guarantee.
