and there still are players that are playing these servers. and the key factor to get these to settle in is to make them feel safe. as in - the server is not just another hype wave riding server that will vanish. They need to see that the server is stable and wont go anywhere, so the time investment is worth it

I can't stand playing WoW anymore lol.
I enjoy seeing some peoples creative takes on the game now though with servers. It's crazy how much the general opinion has shifted over the years. People were all about "blizzlike" and "no changes". Anything custom was considered a fun server that was discarded. Now it's completely changed lol
