its actually SOAP we are currently using. And you are kinda first person this year talking about it, so its not really a thing being talked about often xD
If you need the specific encryption or the asymmetrical authentication you can always use a VPN and restrict the SOAP port to it (which is what you should be doing anyway to administrate anything remotely)
