Afaik for normal spellcasting from the client the cast count is like a temporally unique identifier which can be used to link spell packet results containing this key to cast attempts on the client. This is important for handling afew things and helping seperate different results from different attempts as they can be interrupted locally inbetween cast packets and responses.

At least this was the importance I found with the "castcount" when implememting spell packet handling from scratch in a new client.
