the error seems to be permissions related. looking back through the instructions on https://www.azerothcore.org/wiki/install-with-docker; i did the git clone command as my normal user account. then i had to do 'docker-compose build' as sudo. And lastly this command was sudo as well. Maybe i should have done the git clone as sudo? The command worked, but maybe it split the accounts and ownership of the files?

nah, you generally want to not use sudo, including for docker commands

unfortunately 'docker-compose up -d' and 'docker-compose build' failed almost immediately without sudo, so it must be required in synology environment.
