maybe a better question, does modifying them change actually change the behavior of the game or does the data/*dbc client/*dbc and tables dbc all have to modified. How that all works together is kind of confusing to me.

The client and server both have to have DBCs. The server has them in the Data directory, but the _dbc tables act as overrides to the actual files. So if you want to change something in the DBC you don't have to actually change the file itself, juet add the entry in that table and change what you want. Some things you can get away with only changing on the server-side, but a lot of things both the client and the server have to have the changes to work well

Got it, so the db tables acts as an override that is helpful. Trying to figure out how to reduce some durations on crafting

A case like that will probably need both the server and client DBCs to be updated

You can get away with only doing the server side changes, but the client side cast time would display wrong
