There are 5 commands I run and MariaDB is ready: install package, enable service, mysql_secure_installation, comment out bind-address and restart the service and ready to go every single time

They even share the same tooling - the mysql client, the data directory, etc. it was mostly a license thing.
MariaDB has moved away in some regards, but it’s mostly the same.

the only issues i have ever had with mariadb is cmake not finding the include directory and it sitting on nested queries for a long time
