I don't know and I don't have the time to dig into it at the moment. It could be related to cores, it could be related to OS, it could be related to.. I don't know, the location of the sun.

it probably uses more cpu to calculate the guid although yeah that this could cause issues is a bit of a stretch on any modern computer

Hardware wasn't mentioned and the only mention was that it gets stuck importing an update. That doesn't mean it's broken. It could just be slow hardware.
