If you don't care about the data in the database you can also try enabling all default values in the update section.

Unfortunately I do care, it would be bad to lose the data there (characetrs, but also some world changes I made with new vendors and whatnot)

If there's no way to properly update the database to the new setup, I might have to resort to using an old backup of the whole thing, although I would lose the past few weeks of characters progress. And anyway, it would still become permanently not-updatable
