Haven't done it before but I somehow doubt it.
You would at least need a patch as well so I think it would include some dbc editing

my idea was to somehow find way to reward players that are going through the content

Well dbc isn't the hardest thing, you would just need to add a line here and there

i will do a research, but I have reserves when it comes to patching, since I'm not a programmer, and it always hide risks of breaking with future updates

Custom patches are super simple, it's not core patches I mean.
Just a custom mpq which goes into data folder on wow client
