ptr will allow for testing of new modules and fixes prior to maybe breaking something in prod

Yeah, if it's like those jobs then the average user (which is most of them) wouldn't need it. Hell, I wouldn't even need it since I do it on my end myself. There are people out there who would like it, I'm sure, and it doesn't hurt if you want to learn how to do it as Rymercyble says.
