I would stick away from trying to connect with a domain until you have just the IP working OK, the domain should only point to the IP anyway so it can be skipped for testing purposes

It sounds to me like either a database entry error or a networking (port forwarding) issue

Where did you get your external ip address info? From websites like whatismyip or directly from your WAN port setting on router.
