The name should give you the biggest clue. **Player**bots vs **NPC**Bots

Unless they're defined in a reference, they won't be linked in any way. I'm not 100% sure about how groups work but I would assume it won't affect their drops since by default everything is group 0. Having a reference means you can define how many from that reference would drop. Say you have 10 items but only 2 can drop, that means only 2 will drop regardless of how many is in the list. The same isn't true about the normal loot tables afaik.
