I don't really agree, it's a great way for someone to get introduced to the scene. You could say the same about docker, they don't learn anything or introduce them to the source at all, it "just works"

They could do the same with project provided precompiled binaries at a known version if they have problems with it, you can get proper crash dumps and you know which version the release is from

If they have problems and a new binary with the fix is not yet released, then they either have the option to learn how to compile, or wait for the next release
