There's a misunderstanding. Forgive me and allow me to rephrase.

The mana patch is not listed as optional (I understand that it technically can be). It's not listed as optional in the SQL, nor is it listed as optional in the List of Changes.
So the average user is going to assume that in order for the mana patch to function properly, he does *not* need to look in the `optional` folder.

But that's not true, in order for the mana patch to work, you *must* look in the optional folder and you *must* use patch-V.MPQ.

That's very counterintuitive.

Secondly, patch-V.MPQ is not *just* the mana patch. It includes the profession patch as well. The profession patch is labeled as optional, but since it's married to the mana patch, then in order for the average user to see the correct mana values, they *must* incorporate an *optional* patch on their client that the server owner may not have applied, as it's optional.

That is also confusing.

My question to you was this: does the mana patch only touch Spell.dbc, and does the profession patch only touch the SkillLineXXXX dbcs? If so, it'd be best if the Spell.dbc was put into its own patch, and that patch would be mandatory and advertised as such. patch-V would contain just the optional profession patch.
