It saves a lot of space to create a generic npc_trainer entry for, say, a warlock trainer and give every warlock trainer that generic reference entry rather than the full spell list for every trainer. So, the trainer gets the negative value which points to the reference. Looking at the positive value of that negative in the ID (creature) column, you'll see the contents of the reference entry
