Since it's on local host it's not a firewall issue. Where did you get your client from? Also make sure that the account actually exists and that you're using the correct password.
When you get the prompt that the information you entered is not valid, it's at least connecting to *some* auth server, but your credentials are wrong

Chances are the client is hard coded to connect to that specific server, download a known clean client
