I recompiled it using git clone, making sure I went through it step by step exactly as written and I still get the same issue.

Either there's some commit that's done some dark magic on the core or I'm just cursed. No idea what else to try except redownloading the client from wowdl. If that fails I'm out of options.

At least in my search engine and surely for others. Which makes it most likely one of the most used 3.3.5 clients, at least according to downloads. But yeah, I can try the first option as well if it still fails after a redownload. But it's still a problem if one were to host a serious server, since then a lot of players would be turned away. But we'll see how it goes.
