You need to use a MySql client to change it in the database. This is not about the conf.

Do you happen to have any links handy to guide me through how to edit the required files with HeidiSQL? I'm afraid I don't have any prior experience with those programs.

Oh, I think I got the thing open. I launched mysqld.exe and then just clicked "Open" on HeidiSQL
