Wouldn't make sense that it wasn't created when installing it or you couldn't even access it to begin with.

I guess there's a default then, I didn't specify anything during the install. MariaDB instructions have a command to create a root user prior to starting the service it seems, but i don't know that's relevant here for sure...

Yeah, indeed. Kind of understand, but it feels like a lot of this is quite obtuse. I'm not stupid- I have app support and C# experience and run IT for a global technology company, but a lot of this is not clear just because my experience isn't with the exact pieces referenced here
