I tried this command .reload creature_template but apparently it doesn't work. Console says it can only be modified and not reloaded if new entrys has been made

You can reload a single, existing creature template with that command. You cant load a new template.

The item is normally bound to priest, mage, warlock and that is most likely why you can't equip it.
