Looking at how the proxy does it and compare it to the core, try to port what the proxy does over to the core. There are other steps too, I'm sure, but that part is programming.

I'm not saying you *should* start programming by doing this but I'm just saying that you could. I would recommend starting with something simpler, perhaps a module for AC?
