For a development environment where you're either working on the core or modules, it makes sense to use windows because VS is a godsend when it comes to that.

Microsoft C++ is very different from gcc however. There are a lot of errors that VS compiler will convert that gcc won't. Like Boolean vs Bool; So I live VS it has it's quirks.
