I guess it also depends on how the client is able to connect to the emulator. A realmlist.wtf-style file or patch the exe or run a software that launches the game (which would be a deal-breaker for me)

I mean software likely just changes hosts files temporarily or something of that sort so it redirects, there's prolly a workaround to anything a software solution does.... I'm not too familiar with how the current bnet stuff works tho

the current client is definitely better in the technical sense tho, a lot less buggy especially when dealing with video/sound options

The client being better from a technical point of view is pretty obvious since it wasn't build however many years ago 3.3.5 was released.
