Presumably once AC is so close the only dev work left is Mob tweaks someone will get board fork it and start in on Cata and then eventually the same will happen to Mop. The Benefit of AC is also its curse the scope is finite unlike other projects that continue on in the same expansion adding to it.

Otherwise you're left hoping someone with a closed source core gets bored enough to move onto cata and open source their MoP work, or they get shut down by blizzard and do the same.
