i've been told it uses the folders name when compiling and it needs to match up with whats in the modules code

Only some modules use the depreciated loader with makefiles etc and those do not but yeah anything updated is typically not using that system

Yeah, I thought what I was using was pretty updated.. at least it's the most updated of it's kind, but yeah, still a couple months behind it appears... Again, thank you for your help, much appreciated!

You should always assume the folder has to be called what is shown after the last / in the url.

That's the problem, I followed instructions.. unzipped to folder... recompiled... left the foldernames as they were when they were generated lol

I don't know what the instructions say about this specific thing but I assume it doesn't mention it or is not firm enough about it since we see a lot of people having these issues.

plenty of people just hit the download code button on github, github automatically appends the branch name to the end of the folder inside the downloaded zip

well, and this is not your fault, and probably not the module devs fault, I know that I downloaded zip, unzipped, uploaded, filenames upon unzipping both included -master in the zip name as well as the subfolder name.
