but yes that's how a bitmask works <@280502121860694016>

in a bitmask you're saying that each bit (number in binary) means something if it's on or off (because bits can only be 0 or 1)

for example we could have an 8 bit mask:

0000 0000

(space for readability purposes)

and their order:

8765 4321

so let's have an 8 bit bitmask that tells us what professions a player has (in this scenario, a player can have any amount of the eight professions)

1st bit (1) -> can skin
2nd bit (2) -> can leatherwork
3rd bit (4) -> can herbs
4th bit (8) -> can alchemy
5th bit (16) -> can mine
6th bit (32) -> can blacksmith
7th bit (64) -> can engineer
8th bit (128) -> can tailor


so a player who has:

0000 0011 -> 2 + 1 = 3

can skin & leatherwork.


a player who has:

0100 1100 -> 4 + 8 + 64 = 76

can herb, alch, and engi

you would see these two players have their bitmasks stored as 3 and 76, respectively

that's what the phase number is too
