This credit is just a respect to developers to show who is behind all the hard work. I saw alot of this in early days when all servers would claim that they running private self developed core when in reality it was same fork across all of them. Law side is that no one will go after u if you remove credits. But if u not respect people's work why someone should help you or provide support in any way. To add to that, if someone asks question how to remove this mby it's not a good idea to run private server by that person?

Just to put my two cents in this, if you are worried about people changing the MOTD, hardcore your project name in the output when users login. That will solve any problems referring to your credential discussion. Not here to cause any more drama on the subject. Motd is just like the Motd in the guild system. To display messages, not to gripe over.
