I've seen CPUs running at 5+ GHz handle 4000 bots with ease and then I've seen some with unknown speeds barely handle 500.

Yeah but virtualized servers don’t usually have high clock speeds to make a difference and the dedicated servers that do cost so much that they aren’t really an option for the majority of server owners.

No, they're not ideal. You really have to build your own and choose a CPU with the highest clock speed if you want to maximize the number of bots.
