Hi all, new to ac. Can someone give me a high level view on the client and world server. What does the client do? Basically what is the server limited in modifying? Is it possible to add more assets/models with no client changes?

The oversimplified answer is, that everything visual/models/maps/textures is client data and thus requires modding the client.

Does adding a patch mean client here? If made my own M2 models and MQP patch files would the client automatically detect them?

We don't do client modding here, there's a modding discord not related to AC for it.
