Well, we're going to need a server counterpart for it and we're only interested in doing things the way Blizzard did back then (patch 3.3.5).

So we're adding all the GM client behavior we know of (we have a few internal builds) and that's not something any public emulator has working, so it had to be done. When evaluating projects, I decided not to go with TC because it has too much that needs to be stripped out and while ArcEmu would have been a nice base, it lacks a lot in the UX side of things and I think I got it to work on macOS but it's a pain in the ass to set it up because it doesn't support SSL and that's just the start of the issues just to get it to be cross-platform compatible. AC doesn't have all the modern TC stuff and it builds on all relevant platforms out of the box.

MaNGOS was also considered but I'm not sure it builds on Mac and it's like in between ArcEmu and TC. It's probably better in many ways than AC but it's also lacking all the user friendliness that it offers.

Mac and Linux are of particular importance because that's what most of the dev team uses on the open-source client project.

So you're adding stuff to AC and changing existing stuff and using that as a base? Does that mean you'll be able to merge fixes from AC aside from those that touch on what you've removed/changed?

Yeah, I'm currently rebasing on top of AC fairly often but whenever I start getting merge issues that take too much effort to resolve, that's likely when I'll split off entirely from it.

I don't care for it anyway because I plan on stripping the entire scripting system and rewriting it in something like SAI with the GM client, which will have an interface to edit scripts in game.

Also it will likely improve build times by a considerable amount.
