Sounds like a conclusion drawn from past experience
But yeah, I had almost accepted the fact that I was doomed and would walk this road alone. But we’ll see, I’ll take my chances to poison someone’s mind with the idea of clustering along the way.
At least I can count on chatting here with you and others about some clustering-related stuff, right?

a lot of people have joined and have wanted to take on large projects, including overhauls/additions to the module system and modernization of parts of the core for modern infrastructure but its a lot of work

like Zheng said, a lot of us run small servers so there's not really a lot of incentive to spend the time to help develop these features

Sure, I understand that. However, at the same time, I believe that there are contributors who don't run any server (like myself). What motivates them to continue making contributions? I believe it's simply their passion for coding. They enjoy coding something that they are interested in. Perhaps I will be fortunate enough to find someone with similar interests.
Indeed, the amount of work involved may seem overwhelming, like the fear of a blank canvas it can push you back. But that this is not the case, and I believe I am already halfway there.

I'd love to see almost any improvement to the core, which doesn't affect its maintainability and what's it currently capable off in a negative way.

Like Anchy said, we've seen a lot of people make proposals and suggest new systems, and what's left of it are the messages or -at best- an unfinished fork.

So please don't take that as discouragement, it's just that we haven't seen many large scale projects reach production-ready or even testable state.

yeah don't get me wrong, it would be cool to see any production level advancements to the core; i was just re-iterating what Foe and Zheng said because I'm a parrot

Yeah, skepticism is understandable in this case.
Anyway, it appears that Zheng's opinion is indeed widely shared here. I believe it's a good starting point to begin porting the current TC implementation to AC in the near future. Let's see how far it will go.
