Docker seems to be the less popular method and have the most complications, based on how often I've seen people trying to find solutions for issues with it.

The windows and bash methods seem both more popular and easier to troubleshoot. I use the bash route in WSL, personally.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I can just setup a windows VM on the Unraid server. And set it up all there.

Then if I need any help, I guess it might be easier me being on a "windows 10" machine.

Fair, the docker issues are really user issues. They just seem to happen more frequently with it than otherwise.

yeah docker is fine. I hate docker because I don't use docker and can't provide any support to people who use it, and its always annoying 10min into troubleshooting when they're like "btw i installed with docker"

Would Ubuntu be a better/popular os to use than windows?

Ideally, the Docker set up should be changed to reconstruct the data volume on every new build, and automatically mount a folder that includes lua_scripts if mod-eluna is part of the build. All of which can be set up in the Dockerfile afaik. This would resolve most issues users have with Docker. Though I'm only learning this on the fly myself and don't have the time to figure out how to effectively separate the volumes to not re-download the DBC ZIP on every data volume clear

Yes, for running an AC server, definitely. Much more user-friendly to set it up on Ubuntu (or, really, most Linux distros) than windows
