All the things you want to do require a little setup it means you spending few mins to an hour or so to do. If you do the add items to everyone on player creation is not add. Just requires you know the basics of SQL

but i noticed a lot of the modules is 5+ years old? are they still viable with newest fork?

Clone to modules folder without any -prefix e.g mymodule-master
run cmake (you will see in red when generating the new module(s)), and build.
Some modules can be outdated and not let you compile
