I know in vanilla and i think is the same for wotlk. Hunters only get their pets ability at level 10. In the area after the starting area (not counting for orc and troll, their "2nd zone" is Sen'Jin village) unlike other classes like Night Elf which is Dolanaar

Yeah. I hit 10 a bit prematurely as it seems i learn the skill at the next quest spot
