sounds like he might have the world server set with his loopback address (127.0.0.1). He should check that the bind ip in his worldserver.conf matches what he has in his authserver.conf

No, bind ip is irrelevant unless you changed it from the default value. address in the realmlist table is relevant and so is the firewall.

There's absolutely no reason to mess with bind ip unless you have multiple network interfaces and need it to use a specific one.
