Not sure if i should have posted this in the other thread but...

When i go to open the protection remover i keep getting an error instantly saying:

Component 'Comdlg32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

(running Windows 7)

thanks in advance

Google for comdlg32.ocx and find a place to download the library. Not linking this for you as I don't want to be held responsible if it end up being an infected file, but there should be plenty of places where you can get a clean version.

Drop the file here : \windows\system32 (I'm still using Vista, but I assume the system directory is the same for windows 7)

Run cmd (It's important you run it as administrator or else you won't be able to register the file)

Once in window command paste : regsvr32 %Systemroot%\System32\comdlg32.ocx

Hit enter, profit. The protection remover should now work.

I'll have you know the protection remover doesn't work for me. But I'm to a bit confused as of point 4 about where this BASE directory has to be and which mpqs have to be in it, so I'm probably messing up there.

EDIT : Nvm it works, I must've made a mistake with my own edits. I used a custom modified file from someone else on this site and it worked like a charm, simply named it wow-update-13670.MPQ (as to be the latest patch file) , dropped it in the data folder and worked perfectly, no further messing required with other MPQs, like the good old patch-x.MPQ days.

Quote: if you try to use old version files, you may get crashes (except textures I think).

imho the best way is self-making similar patches, based on files of current version. these patches should be more stable and correct. but of course, old patches may be useful for getting information about location of needed files.

That's probably why my own edit isn't working, I'm using an older spell.dbc file for spell edits. Because the one I find in the latest patch doesn't want to open with a dbc editor and doesn't let itself get converted to a file excel can handle.
