Is there any way for Blizzard to discover modified clients? I know that they can ban you if you use model edits for stuff like to make the Netherwing eggs bigger, but they wouldn't bother you if you just used simple model edits, or spellswaps. However considering that now I have to patch my client, I'm not so sure if this is safe anymore.

Yes, all of them work on official servers.
And yes, they COULD detect them but like you said they don't care THAT much about spellswaps..but that doesn't mean that you can't be banned. You are never safe when you modelchange, but you shouldn't be that scared. It's your choice
